I hope you are having a wonderful week. I wanted to take a moment to check in with you regarding a couple of things: 1) To encourage you with what we heard from God's Word, 2) To recap some personal life events for the Cottons. In other words, we are going to be neighbors very soon!
Sunday Recap
This past Sunday, we looked at the story of Haman in Esther and discovered that beneath all of his hatred for the Jewish people, there was something much deeper—pride. Haman reminds us that pride is often the hardest sin to recognize because it convinces us that the problem is always someone else.
Throughout the story, we saw three sobering truths: pride always wants more, it never wants less, and if left unchecked, it always leads toward death. Like Haman, we can easily begin looking for our security and significance in our accomplishments, our reputation, or the approval of others. But those things can never give us the lasting security they promise.
The good news is that Haman's story doesn't have to become ours. Esther exposes Haman's pride, but Jesus came to do something even greater—He came to bear the penalty for our pride and set us free from its grip. Though He possessed all glory, He humbled Himself, giving His life so that proud sinners like us could be fully known, fully loved, and fully accepted by God.
As you move through this week, ask yourself: Where am I looking for my identity and security? Is it in what others think of me, or in what Christ has already done for me?
Because of the cross, you don't have to spend another day proving yourself. In Christ, you are already fully known, fully loved, and fully accepted—and that is the only place where pride finally dies.
Also, a very special thank you to Dan and the Choir for a wonderful night of worship and mission! Exciting things are happening at DHCC, and I am so thanlful to be playing a small part.
Quick Life Update
On a personal note, I wanted to let you know how grateful Alisa and I are for your prayers and encouragement during this season. We are getting very close to finally moving into town!
The Cotton family has closed on their house in Diamondhead, and if all goes according to plan, we'll be moving in by July 10th. We are incredibly thankful for the Lord's provision and are excited to continue putting down roots and doing life together with all of you. Thank you for loving our family so well and for walking alongside us during this transition. We truly feel blessed to call this church home.
